A little weekend squirrel dropped in Friday, and it was, without a doubt, a Drop Everything And Make it (DrEAMi) project. If you’re not familiar with DrEAMi projects, these little projects, often referred to as squirrels, drop in and interrupt your usual flow of quilt projects. All other projects get swept to the side – it needs to be made – now!
Sandra of mmmQuilts is the creator of this fun idea and the DrEAMi linky party, which happens at the end of each month. She’s our mmMotivator, and is frequently visited by squirrels herself.
Sandra is responsible for my weekend squirrel, because it is her new quilt design, Let Your Star Shine, that led me happily astray for a few hours. This is definitely a pattern you’ll want to have in your stash of quick patterns! It is available in Sandra’s Etsy Shop. You’ll find the link to her shop on her website, right here.
It all started when I pulled this pink print for my focus fabric. Then I saw the Grunge fabrics and the Kona fabric. I read through the pattern. I started calculating how long it would take me. I started cutting.
Here are the fabrics, for those of you who might be interested.
(Ignore the blue fabrics at the top of the photo – that’s one of the projects I should’ve been working on!)
I didn’t even stop to take progress photos, I was having way too much fun putting this quilt together. You could easily get this top finished in a day. My daughter came home, found me in my sewing room, and asked what I was working on so late in the day (it was 5:30 pm – I’m usually done quilting by then). I stopped a little later, when I had the inner star finished.
This is the perfect size quilt for a baby quilt or wall quilt. It would look great on a table, too! The quilt finishes at 36.5 inches.
There were left over HSTs, so I had a little fun with them and made a small runner. It measures 12.5″ x 24.5″ – a great way to use up those scraps!
Next will be quilting these two little projects – I’ll add that to the list of things I should’ve been working on before this little DrEAMi weekend squirrel dropped in.
Thanks, Sandra, for a great pattern, and a fun day of sewing!
Wendy
